A before & after worth the wait 🤎

This was an emotional project where we wanted to celebrate a time of stillness. We increased the storage by opting for seasonal cabinets on the back of the island and increasing the upper cabinet height and depth.

Throwing it back to my original office design. This room was intended to be a “space within a space”. The colour blocking intentionally framed a small corner vignette for my book & antique collection.

Now that my new studio has so many functions I’ve had to let go of my dark-academia inspired corner and integrate it into a space that fosters creativity and energy.

February 24th-March 2nd is Eating Disorder Awareness Week.

I tried to tell this story last year but still have so many feelings towards my ED. I once had someone close to me say, “well I can see how no one takes it seriously because it’s not like you hate how you look”.

Sharing this feels like a cry for attention more than a call for awareness which is WHY I need to share. It is validation of the uncomfortable and irregular struggle that I have experienced now for 5 years.

ARFID has changed the way I look at food habits, working culture, and family psychology. It also is not taken as seriously as it should be.

Work smart, not hard. My stair provider will do all the math for me.

3. Trace Planning
AKA space planning on trace paper. I have AutoCAD… why both? 🤷🏻‍♀️

4. Designing with out limits
It’s fun, but unrealistic. I ALWAYS have limits when designing now. Budget, timeline, building code… Designing with limits can be just as creatively motivating than with out!

1. Trendy

It implies that the elements you’re wanting are fleeting, as well as that you are drawn to something because others have it. I’m more concerned about choosing elements that support our carefully developed design concept.
The word I would use instead = Impactful

2. Cheap

Design does not have to be over the top costly, but we all need to recognize that it has VALUE. It’s like trying to put a price on health or wellbeing.
The word I would use instead = Realistic

3. Fast

“Nothing in nature rushes, yet everything is accomplished”. We forget in this age of immediate gratification that good things take time, and patience pays off.

3 things you DON’T need to be my client ⬇️

1. A clean space

So many of my clients get self conscious of their spaces when I come over. I think it’s a misconception that because designers create / live in beautiful spaces that we pass judgement on the spaces of our clients. I want to honour my clients for choosing me to help them because they obviously respect design and themselves enough to hire me in the first place. By leaving your space in its most natural state I will be able to understand how you use the space and what areas need the most attention.

2. A fully realized style or vision

I have developed a very special questionnaire that helps me understand how you experience space + define design terminology. This helps us determine your unique style and usually acts as the catalyst for the design concept.

3. Knowledge of construction or where to start

You don’t need to know construction or where to begin. That’s my job! With my 9 years of construction experience I am able to consult clients on where to begin, how to execute the design, and support them throughout the construction process.

We did a lot in 2024 but I want to remember it by our honeymoon. This was a dream vacation for me. To be blessed enough to travel for 5 weeks with my husband exploring, eating, and enjoying each other’s company.

This trip brought me alot of time to reflect on my life and business. It reminded me why I work, but it also put into perspective what I want out of my time on earth and the energy I need to surround and fill myself with in order to achieve it.

My hope is that I can always remember what this trip brought me, and that I can always refer back to these memories for inspiration and guidance going forward.
